I promised you at the beginning of the week that I was going to try and be SUPER objective with these overviews of interactive whiteboards. I just might be falling in love with another one – ah! Which one will I choose for my projects?! More importantly, which one will YOU choose??
Vittle free has been on my iPad for about a year – it’s cute, pretty basic, has a watermark and a cute little “made with Vittle <3” at the end of your videos. You can save your video to your camera roll and upload to YouTube via iMovie or another app (like the YouTube app – duh :-). The cutest feature is “dancing dots” which makes your drawing look like it is animated – the lines you draw just sort of start moving – it’s fun and is a cute addition to a video!
I had every intention of writing about Vittle free today…and then I met Vittle the paid version, let’s just call it Vittle-change-yo-life to keep with the theme of the week…and I may not ever go back!
Listen, I know you probably just looked it up in the app store – don’t freak out. I know that it is $8.99 – that is A LOT for an app! They do offer an educator discount – of 50% – you can get the details of that (for as long as it is available) in the details in the app store.
I ended up getting an educator pack that included Vittle (change-yo-life), Classroom PDF, and AirSketch for a little bit of a discount which was cool with me because I was interested in all 3 for YOU GUYS! I’m going to make you wait for my overviews of Classroom PDF and AirSketch though 😉 they have some seriously cool features!
Vittle (change-yo-life) has all of the features that you love in an interactive whiteboard.
- You can write/draw at the same time you are speaking.
- Lock feature – lock your image so you can move it all at the same time
- Laser pointer tool – point that red laser till your heart’s content
- Ability to add photos or pictures from another source
- Multiple “pages” for you to write and record on in the same video – flip the page when you are ready to move on to a new drawing or need a clean slate
- Great draw and erase tool – super easy to use (you don’t have to go over things a thousand times to get them erased!)
Extra fun Vittle features include:
- Dancing dots! SO cute! You’ll see what I mean in a minute!
- Select and move tool – draw a note, select it, move it around your hand drawn staff – this feature is not exclusive to Vittle, but is really cool and has a lot of possibilities!
- Zoom feature! VERY cool!
Cons:
- While you can lock the images together to move them, you cannot lock them from being erased at this time (so if you draw a staff and mess up on a note that you are drawing on it, you have to erase a big chunk as opposed to drawing a staff, locking it (from being erased) and then drawing notes and messing up all you want without having to erase your staff
- Select tool – this can be a little tricky to get used to – if you deselect whatever you are moving around, you have to redraw the box to select it again…which may or may not include elements from the rest of your drawing. Here’s an example: I draw a staff, I draw a note to move around the staff, I am moving the note around the staff and accidentally deselect it. I now have to reselect it, but it takes the G line with it. Here is another time when a lock (no erase) tool would be useful.
All that being said, I am a HUGE fan of Vittle (change-yo-life). With a few minor additions, it would really be perfect! And who knows? Maybe it is perfect for you!
In celebration of That Flipping Band Director’s 200th like on the FB, here’s a little Vittle video for you to enjoy and see it’s fun features a bit! I used Vittle exclusively for this simple project – no music or editing with iMovie so that you can see what this app on its own can do. Thanks for all the support, everyone! 200 seems like a HUGE number to me – I hope that all 200 of you enjoy and find this resource useful!!
