Basic Website Hosting and Getting Started

How I got started

This is not the “right way” to flip your class, but it is “a way” to flip your class. Please let me know how you have gotten started and what tools have been helpful to you!

I researched some different website hosts, the one included and chose wix.com. If I did it again I might choose a different site, who knows! I have found wix to be very user friendly and visually appealing. It is also free. Winning.

I set up the site and was a little disappointed that I couldn’t choose the domain which makes weebly more appealing, but weebly at the time seemed more blog friendly so I stuck with wix. I will say that the web address has been an issue on multiple occasions with students – it is very long and if it is not 100% correct, students cannot find the page. I have remedied that by just posting a hyperlink to it on my teacher web page that the district has us using. Putting it in hyperlink form on something that everyone knows how to get to already has solved the problem completely.

A hyperlink looks like this —> check out my flipped website!

With my new wix account I started playing around on it. I have always found that one of the best ways to learn something with technology is to just try it. There are some tutorials on wix if you get confused, but just messing with it was plenty for me – it is very self explanatory.

I already had a youtube account and therefore a place to upload videos to. Once videos are on youtube, it is easy to embed them on your website.

Time to get creative and make videos!
